The Nasdaq led the losses of the US bourse on Tuesday, hampered by the decline in NVIDIA (NVDA.US) shares and a broad sell-off in tech stocks. The Nasdaq slid 314 points or 1.5% for the day, closing at 21,314. The S&P 500 also receded on Tuesday, closing down 37 points or 0.6% at 6,411. The DJIA, buoyed by Home Depot (HD.US) maintaining its full-year guidance and a 3% leap in its share price, closed slightly higher by 10 points at 44,922, hitting a new intraday high of 45,207.
Shares of major techs and chipmakers subsided, with NVIDIA (NVDA.US) sliding 3.5% for the day, AMD (AMD.US) and Broadcom (AVGO.US) diving 5% and nearly 4%, respectively. AI military software company Palantir (PLTR.US) plunged over 9%, becoming the worst-performing stock in the S&P 500. Other major techs like Tesla (TSLA.US), Meta (META.US), and Netflix (NFLX.US) also came under pressure.
Intel (INTC.US) jumped up 7% on Tuesday after SoftBank (9984.JP) invested US$2 billion to join stake in the company, with the U.S. Commerce Secretary confirming that Intel must exchange the company's equity for government subsidies.
